Description

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Bus Driver/Maintenance Operative to join our team in Children's Disability Service O'Neill Centre Carlow / Kilkenny

Contract Hours: Fulltime
Contract Type: Specified purpose contract to cover leave
Salary Scale: €28,952 to €32,189 pro rata per annum

Overall purpose of the post:
To provide safe, efficient travel in a dignified way to those who avail of Enable Ireland, Kilkenny services and to carry out maintenance duties, i.e. portering, gardening, general maintenance work. The post holder will ensure that the building development and upkeep of the facilities are to an acceptable level and meet all the requirements from a health and safety perspective. Prioritisation of the planning of work is an integral part of this post.

Overall Duties and Responsibilities:
• To ensure that a high standard of service to is delivered at all times.
• Respecting the ethos and principles of Enable Ireland, Kilkenny and organise work to promote each child and their family as individuals with dignity.
• Work in accordance with Enable Ireland Codes of Practice and Guidelines, and all Enable Ireland Policies and Procedures.
• To contribute to good team work in sharing knowledge and skills.

• Driving Enable Ireland, Kilkenny Minibuses as required, in a manner that is safe and that respects the welfare of passengers at all times.
• Ensuring that all internal vehicle equipment e.g. hoists, seat belts, safety harnesses, child seats, wheelchair restraints are maintained and in safe and proper working order at all times.
• Assisting children/adults on and off minibuses.
• Operating hoists in a safe manner.
• Any general maintenance work as directed by the Manager.
• Gardening duties - sweeping of paths, cutting grass, preparation of refuse for collection and any other duties that may be required to keep the grounds to a high and safe standard.
• Immediate reporting of any defects in grounds, equipment or building that may represent a hazard to service users, staff or visitors.
Portering - moving equipment and furniture as required.
• Ensure all the daily /weekly /monthly /yearly checks are completed.
• To work in collaboration with the other members of the team in the planning and delivery of transport services for children.
• Attend and actively contribute to service meetings.
• Participate in training and developmental opportunities as identified and agreed.
• Is committed to achieving evidence based goals and the continuous improvement of the service.
• Shows enthusiasm and a high level of motivation in completing projects.
• Staff will be expected to display appropriate sensitivity while working closely with families and service users.
• Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to make a credible contribution to the service.
• Plans and organises activities and necessary resources efficiently and effectively.
• Understands the importance of time management for themselves and in particular how this translates to organising their work load.
• Deals with unexpected scenarios with persistence and flexibility to ensure the achievement of goals.

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Criteria:
• Skilled or semi-skilled in maintenance - electrical, plumbing, carpentry or painting etc.
• Proven ability to communicate information public in an effective and professional manner.
• Excellent interpersonal, spoken, and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of safe work practice and procedures.
• Clean B Driving Licence.

Desirable Criteria:
• Commitment to working in partnership with parents/carers and children in a family centred manner.
• Previous experience of working with people with disabilities.
• Basic knowledge of Child Protection.
• Clean DI Driving Licence.
• Experience of driving wheelchair accessible vehicle.
• Basic computer skills.
