Description
The EHS Support Specialist, reporting to the EHS Lead, takes responsibility and ownership for all activities associated with their assigned role. The EHS Support Specialist will be responsible for developing various elements of the EHS management system (SMS) on site, mostly comprising of risk assessments, developing supporting training packages and standard operating procedures to comply with site global standards and local laws. Other works in support of the SMS may also be required as the programme develops.
The EHS Specialist provides technical support in the assessment and continuous improvements of safety systems and safe work practices, with a strong emphasis on the practical implementation of good industry practices within the facility operations. He/she will liaise with key customers, including corporate colleagues and facility’s managers, supervisors and other colleagues to help develop, implement, support and lead the EHS
programmes they are assigned.
Play an active role in process troubleshooting and development of continuous safety improvement projects.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• Work with stakeholders to develop technical risk assessments and implement controls as required.
• Assist in developing the training matrix including coordination of relevant EHS training, provide internal training programmes where required on the SOPs and training packages developed.
• Develop and implement SOPs and Training packages on education of same including on the job training packages (OJTs) where required.
• The EHS Support Specialist will work closely with EHS Lead, and other Leads and staff to make improvements in all EHS programmes on site. Develop a close working relationship with the training lead to ensure a smooth transition of developed EHS-SOPs into training curriculum and delivery via an automated LMS (learning management system)
• Participates in other Health & Safety initiatives and projects as appropriate.
• Identify any deficiencies in the current EHS management systems that increase risk or liability
• Focus on continuous improvement, across all site functions, as we strive for Safety and Environmental Excellence and a goal of Zero accidents and incidents for the site.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
• 2-5 years’ operating in a similar position in the Pharmaceutical Industry, or other technically complex, highly regulated environment essential
• Minimum, Diploma or equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Demonstrable Experience in carrying out development of high-quality risk assessments, training packages, standards and SOPs,
• Training design and delivery.
• Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or similar technically complex manufacturing environment.
• Thorough understanding of health and safety regulations, procedures and processes.
• Knowledge of workplace hazards and hierarchy of controls;
• Knowledge of general safety principles;
• A good understanding of Industrial hygiene requirements.
• Excellent team player and ability to work in a diverse environment
• Ability to work to tight deadlines while managing various projects. Strong time management skills.
• Understanding of EHS regulatory and quality requirements.
