Service Engineer (Mechanical) – Power Generation / CHP

A leading provider of sustainable and energy-efficient solutions is seeking a Service Engineer (Mechanical) to join their team in Ireland. This role is primarily focused on supporting the operation and maintenance of a major power generation site in the Dublin area, delivering both planned and preventative maintenance services.

The Role
You will be responsible for the effective servicing and maintenance of gas-fired Power Generation and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units. As the first point of contact for site-based customers, you must demonstrate strong communication skills, self-motivation, and a meticulous approach to your work.

A background in the mechanical or energy industry is essential, particularly in areas related to Power Generation or CHP projects. Candidates should hold a mechanical craft qualification or higher.

Comprehensive training programs, including access to an on-site training academy and additional courses in Ireland and the UK, will be provided to support your development in power generation and CHP systems.

Key Responsibilities
Adhere to company Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality standards.
Conduct planned and reactive maintenance on CHP and gas-fired power generation units.
Diagnose and resolve faults with reciprocating engines and associated systems.
Carry out major maintenance tasks including engine rebuilds and overhauls.
Host and supervise third-party contractors on-site.
Complete all required service documentation and reporting accurately and on time.
Maintain high standards of site housekeeping and safety compliance.
Support and mentor field service engineers and assist with work planning and resource coordination.
Assist in SLA reporting and performance tracking for key generation assets.
Participate in the on-call rota for emergency support.
Maintain vehicle stock levels and ensure availability of critical spare parts.

Essential Experience & Qualifications
3–5 years’ experience in a field-based service role working on reciprocating engines or power generation systems.
Proven ability to strip and rebuild engines to component level.
Strong understanding of rotating equipment and mechanical systems.
Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
Sound knowledge of Health & Safety standards and safe working practices.

Desirable Skills & Background
Experience with gas or diesel generators (including standby systems).
Background in marine vessels or heavy plant equipment maintenance.
Familiarity with Jenbacher, MTU, CAT, Perkins, MAN, or MWM engines.
Knowledge of three-phase electrical systems and control panels.
CHP plant commissioning experience.
